New Stuff

Mar. 14   Snow goose fun continues with a series of photos of individual blue snow geese.
I've updated my bibliography with the publication of "Barbara Bloodbath" (a fantasy), or you can visit Space and Time direct.
11   The snow geese celebration continues with an 80-second clip of a massive swarm. At 8 megs, having basic DSL or a cable modem is recommended.
10   The first of this year's snow geese video clips: A brief swarm (16 seconds)
8   Sue and I went to Middle Creek for the annual snow goose gathering on their spring migration. To begin, I've two photos: snow geese on ice and the beginning of a great swarm
I've a lot of updating to do (hopefully during the week). The spring Space and Time is here, and the Australian anthology Belong is out for printing (and each has a story of mine).
1   It's been touch and go, but I've met all my deadlines - and I'm finished! finished! finished! What to do first? I don't know, because it's been a long haul of many assignments. Right now, even staring at a blank wall sounds like fun. . . . Well, not really. But I have to get focused on what to do so as not to lose any time in doing it, like writing another novel.
In the meantime, while I decide what I'm doing, here's an extraordinary sparrow: Lincoln's sparrow

Feb. 21   Back in August 2005, Sue came across a black bear in the game land.
One week to go on the big push to meet my deadlines!
14   Here is a page of ice art and snow creatures.
This is my final two-week push for finishing my freelance projects and resuming a somewhat more normal lifestyle.
7   This week I've had a fine range of choices for a new page, but I was particularly struck by one little gray squirrel dashing through deep snow.

Jan 31   Winter dewdrop worlds
I've added a third photo to the sequence of Ms. Pileated Woodpecker on the suet block.
24   Pileated woodpecker: Our winter guest.
I'm down to four freelance projects. In another month perhaps I'll have time for my own writing.
17   Hello Starling! I'm not generally topical, but with the proposal to poison a large flock of starlings, I thought I'd put up a starling page, under the theory that nothing is missed until it's gone.
10   A winter scene: Blue jay feeding frenzy.
My freelance workload is as crazy as ever, but given the political and economic state of the world, I want to begin cartooning again.
3   My photo logging of local Pennsylvania wildlife continues with the red fox.

Dec. 27   I hope everyone is enjoying the holiday season, with best wishes on the New Year for all of you!
Ice that freezes flat may be anything but flat: It can have amazing ice patterns
21   To provide a little balance from last week, I've put up a few photos (and text) about the purple finch, which closely resembles last week's house finch.
Good news on the publication front: The Australian anthology Belong is moving ahead and will have one of my science fiction stories, "A Friendly Gesture." I've a few more details in my bibliography.
13   I've been neglecting house finches; I suppose they're too common; but at last I've corrected my oversight: Allow me to present: the house finch
I've been trying to adapt to a new monitor, which has excellent color, but depending on the angle one looks at the monitor, an image can be too dark or too light.
6   Occasionally I happen to redo one of my pages, and my photos of the Cooper's hawk were long due for replacement.

Nov. 15   A week ago while I was driving in Pennsylvania on the I-80 to pick up Sue, my right-front tire blew out. I managed to make it to a rest stop, where a wonderful person changed the tire for me and then followed behind to make sure I reached the next exit. In the space of a few days, both Sue and I had vehicle breakdowns, and on each occasion, a stranger provided excellent assistance, people whom we had never seen before and probably will never seen again. How to thank them?
I can't think of anything truly appropriate, but have decided to make my most popular online game completely free. My online version of Mancala now has all the features of the registered version (including a learning mode by which one can see individual cup totals), and the downloadable version is now the complete registered version.
