By the Light of the Moon
10 Feb. 2014

Landscape photography with moonlight and snow is magical. The snow lightens the foreground, adding contrast to the trees and sky. And when else can a person have a starry sky to enhance the mood?

Conditions - such as a reasonably clear night, a bright moon, and thorough snow covering - do not happen as often as I would prefer; however, the year is off to a good start.

A simple nighttime landscape

Although the thin cloud cover diminished the overall lighting possible (and required a longer exposure for scenes), the moon itself adds its own magic.

Quarter moon through tree and clouds

Want to discuss luck? Last Tuesday I finally captured a meteor trail, something entirely unexpected.

Falling star, or meteor trail

Care to make a wish or two on a falling star?

Camera note: I used a Pentax K20D, with the SMC-A f2.8 20mm lens, on 6 Feb. 2014 for these photos.
