A Happy DragonflyJuly 19, 2009

Dragonfly identification often depends on seeing the overall body of the dragonfly, and then I can have the frustration of trying to match the photo against color plates of a dragonfly ID book. However, there are times when other factors come to the forefront. Such as a facial expression, and let me tell you: This is the happiest dragonfly I've ever seen.

So although I can't identify the dragonfly via the standard measures, a name such as Anisoptera fortunatus seems quite appropriate.

Photo note: The above was taken with the Pentax *K200D and the SMC-A* 200mm macro lens (with a Pentax 2x multiplier) in Toftrees game land behind Cooper's Pond, State College, Pennsylvania, on July 13, 2009.
