State College Damselflies Getting Closer | May 29, 2011 |

Damselflies are easy to overlook but amazing to see. They are so small, about an inch in length (or 2.5 cm), or the size of an ordinary pin, and they require a macro photograph to reveal the incredible color and detail.
Of course, after a winter of photographing birds (near and far), it takes me a while to become accustomed to macros. The following photo from mid-May shows what I mean.

The damselfly has okay detail, but I knew I could do better.
As spring progresses into summer, I become accustomed to getting closer to a damselfly. The damselfly's orange on this next one was brilliant. | |

Damselflies provide good incentive for taking macros.
