Eastern Screech Owl
Otus asio
Febuary 12, 2012

The eastern screech owl (Otus asio) is a smallish owl with wonderful camouflage.

Luckily for me, a State College Bird Club member mentioned that the screech owl was in the local game land.

At home, however, the owl is difficult to notice when it's in its tree nest.

It's far easier to come across and see the nest hole when the owl isn't around.

Of course, it is far better to see the owl, and it's the first screech owl that I've ever seen in the wild.

Photo note: I used a Pentax K20D, with the Sigma 150-500 lens (handheld), for the photos, taken during February 2012.
