Great Blue Heron FlybyJune 2006

Given the normal luck of most flybys, the bird in question is disappearing behind trees. However, last week I saw a pair of great blue herons approaching from a fair distance and over open sky. I could only fit one heron within the frame of the photo, but there are times when one is enough.

The approach.

The great blue heron perhaps became self-conscious and began veering away.

(Don't you love those long toes?)

They are absolutely magnificent to watch in flight!

Photo note: I used a Pentax *ist D, with the SMC 1000mm reflex lens.
